Do you know the story behind arrecadas earrings? Worn for several millennia, arrecadas earrings are usually made with traditional Portuguese filigree, which meticulously decorates their entire structure.

    HISTORY OF THE ARRECADAS

Worn for several millennia and in some cases by both women and men, they are characterized by an elaborate bottom part, much appreciated today because they bring together characteristics typical of oriental jewelry, particularly from countries like India or Iran.

In Portuguese, these pieces were also produced using filigree but with markedly popular origins.

Unlike other pieces of jewelry, the arrecadas would be imitated by the wealthiest classes of society - the richer they were, the more elaborate the arrecadas would be.

Another curious detail is the fact that their size is associated with the age of those who use them - girls used small arrecadas, their mothers and grandmothers wore more generously sized arrecadas.

    THE ART OF DETAILS

They are composed of a small ring that attaches to the ear and an entire lower body that departs directly from the ring.

This lower part opens in a fan shape, still presenting notes that remind us of an inverted triangle.

In one of the most common versions we can find inside it a pendant lúnula in the shape of a crescent, but contrary to what happens in “Queen earrings” this lúnula is a simple polished plate, without decoration, which would serve to reflect the light, highlighting not only the beauty of the arrecadas but also of those who used them.
