    HISTORY OF MINAS NOVAS JEWELRY

In the middle of the 18th century in Brazil, in the State of Minas Gerais, in addition to gold, diamond mines and a huge variety of other precious and semi-precious stones were discovered.

Among the latter, a variety of totally colorless quartz, hyaline quartz, better known as Rock Crystal, becomes especially popular with Portuguese customers.

In Portugal, the second half of the 18th century is a period when luxury and decorative exuberance flourish. This is also reflected in the jewelry of the time.

We see pieces of high artistic value appear, which test the skills of the best goldsmith masters.

New trades associated with jewelry also appear, such as lapiders and engravers, because almost the entire surface of these new pieces is occupied by stones, whether diamonds or colored stones. A period of much brightness and a lot of color.

    THE ART OF DETAILS

Minas Novas jewelry continues to be designed so that the maximum effect of the refraction and color of the rock crystals stones is removed from the light.

To further accentuate this effect, it is common to design articulated pieces that move and "play" with light.
